In most institutions in Eastern Europe children are cohorted by age. While this may make care easier, it precludes interactions between children of various ages much as wed find in a family. Older children provide excellent role models for younger children as well as provide models for language development and play skills. Institutions with mixed ages generally have better developmental outcomes. |
